Water restrictions in Featherston and Greytown are today being tightened to a complete outdoor water ban. This means that in all three South Wairarapa towns are on the same level of restriction. Using water outside for garden watering, washing vehicles, driveways, houses etc. is not permitted, and water indoors should also be conserved where possible.

Current water consumption levels in Greytown and Featherston are not sustainable over the rest of the summer period unless demand is significantly reduced.

“Over the last three days, the combined consumption for both towns has exceeded 3900m3  per day; this means that we must take decisive action today,” said Mayor Alex Beijen.

The Featherston and Greytown water supplies are interrelated. This means that water restrictions are based on and apply to both towns. 

“A total outdoor water ban is necessary to ensure the continued delivery of water to our communities, and stored supplies for emergency use; it’s a shared responsibility”, says Alex.

Note: In Pirinoa, the boil water notice remains in place until additional improvements to the water treatment plant are completed in February 2020. No additional water restrictions apply.
