Residential and some rural properties
All residential properties within the main urban centres and some specific rural areas have their rubbish collected weekly. The rural areas that qualify are those on roads that the collection trucks travel regularly. Residents benefiting from rubbish collection pay a refuse charge on their rates to cover the service. If you have questions, or wonder if your property qualifies for rubbish collection, contact the
Infrastructure and Services department or ring 06 306 9611.
Please be sure your rubbish is in Council bags and on the kerb along with your recycling bins by 7.30am on your collection day:

Rural properties
Rural residents may take rubbish, recycling and green waste to the nearest transfer station. Jump to the
Transfer Station section for charges and to see what type of recycling or rubbish each transfer station can accept.
Commercial and Industrial properties
Commercial and Industrial property owners should contact Council to see if their residual waste can be accepted at the Martinborough Transfer Station. This is to ensure that any hazardous or dangerous materials can be disposed of properly. If the waste is okay and a special charging agreement is organised with Council, you can take the waste to the Martinborough Transfer Station yourself. For collection options contact Council’s contractor,
Earthcare Environmental, by ringing 0800 200 320 or emailing
swdc@eathcarenz.co.nz to set up a special arrangement.
Residential and some rural properties
Kerbside recycling will be collected on the same day as the rubbish collection. Large items that don’t go in the bins can be taken to a transfer station at your own expense, and waste oil can be taken to a service station. Agricultural container recycling is available at the Martinborough Transfer Station once a month.

Commercial and Industrial areas
Commercial and Industrial property owners generating more than a residential amount of recycling (Council will determine whether the quantity is significant) should take their recycling to transfer stations, or for collection options contact Council’s contractor,

Windy Day Recycling: Paper and plastics can blow all over the place on windy days. If your recycle bin is only half full, consider leaving it until next week’s collection. Or put the lightest items in plastic bags inside the recycle bin. Using a rock or brick on top of newspapers and cardboard will help.
Recycle bins
Residents who qualify for kerbside recycling collection have been allocated two recycle bins – one green and one red. Please use these bins to ensure the recyclables are recycled!
