The Department of Internal Affairs runs a rates rebate scheme that in some cases allows for a refund or partial discount on rates for those on benefits or very low incomes.  The scheme is administered by Council.

There are three factors that determine a person’s eligibility, level of income, level of rates and the number of dependents.

To check whether you are eligible for a rebate use the Department of Internal Affairs online calculator.

If you think you meet the criteria, or you would like help to determine your eligibility, contact us and we will work through it with you.  Otherwise complete the rates rebate form and return to us.

Council provides for various types of rates remission. The conditions and criteria relating to each type of remission is set out in the Remission of Rates Policy.  The application form for the rates penalty remission can be found here.  All other applications should be made in writing to the Group Manager Corporate Support.
