Rates Information

Every year Council is required to set a rating resolution which outlines how the components of your rates charge are calculated and when the rates are due.  The 2019/2020 rates resolution provides due dates for rates installments and penalty application dates. The penalty is set at 10 per cent.

Payment of Rates
Rates can be paid by any of the following methods.  Please note that Council cannot accept credit card payments.

  • Direct debit (weekly, fortnightly, monthly or quarterly) set up through the Council.
  • Automatic payment set up through your bank or on internet banking.
  • Telephone or internet banking.
  • Cheque.
  • Eftpos at the Council office in Martinborough.
  • Cash at the Council or Greytown and Featherston Libraries.

  • Featherston Library/Service Centre, Fitzherbert St, Featherston
  • Greytown Library/Service Centre, 89 Main St, Greytown
  • Greater Wellington Regional Council Office, 35-37 Chapel St, Masterton
  • Greater Wellington Regional Council Office, Shed 39, Harbour Quays, Wellington
  • or post to South Wairarapa District Council, PO Box 6, Martinborough 5741

Rates Rebates
The Department of Internal Affairs facilitates a rates rebate scheme that allows for an annual contribution of up to $640 towards the cost of rates for those on benefits or low household incomes.  The scheme is administered by Council.

There are four factors that determine a person’s eligibility:

  • House ownership
  • Level of income
  • Level of rates
  • Number of dependents

If you would like assistance determining your eligibility or completing the form phone us or pop down to your local service centre and we will work through it with you.  Otherwise complete the rates rebate form and return to us.
