Media release: Independent review of Martinborough town water incident released

South Wairarapa District Council has today released an independent technical report that reviews the Martinborough town water contamination incident, which led to a boil water notice being issued for the town water supply from 1 to 21 February.

The Council takes the findings of this report very seriously and is considering the recommendations on what needs to be done to protect the water supply, and importantly the health and safety of Martinborough residents.

Acting Chief Executive Jennie Mitchell says, “the report is a key input into the incident review process, and, as such, we think it’s important that we share it with the community.

“Council will take on board the findings of the report, as well as feedback from the community from their perspective of the incident, and on what actions need to be taken to ensure safe drinking water for the future.”

An incident review meeting is being held for the community to give their feedback and ask questions about the incident at 7pm, Monday 8 April, at the Waihinga Centre in Martinborough. A panel of experts from Council, Regional Public Health, Wellington Water and Lutra, the authors of the independent technical report, will be available to answer questions.
