Martinborough Community Centre

The proposed Martinborough Community Centre, including the historic Town Hall, is an exciting new community facility for the greater Wairarapa region. The project involves the redevelopment of the existing Town Hall and a bold new addition incorporating the library, i-Site Visitor Centre, Toy Library and Plunket.  Following a public competition the future Community Centre was named the Waihinga Centre.

Martinborough Town Hall

The Martinborough Town Hall is a heritage building built in 1912 and made of unreinforced masonry.
It has been identified as an earthquake prone building (EPB) under the current Building Act and falls well below current safety standards. In the event of even a moderate earthquake the building could pose significant risk to people. The South Wairarapa District Council policy on earthquake prone buildings requires that the risk be removed within the next 10 years (by 2021).
