South Wairarapa District Council |
WelcomeThe South Wairarapa District Council is situated at the southern most corner of the North Island and has an area of approximately 248,455 hectares (2484 square kilometres).
In the south, the district boundary follows the coastline from the western end of Palliser Bay in Cook Strait to Honeycomb Rock, east of Martinborough. The western boundary follows the main divide of the Rimutaka and Tararua Ranges to Mount Hector, from which the boundary runs southeast across the Wairarapa Plains to the coast.
The District includes the towns of Featherston, Greytown and Martinborough which are the main population centres.
Marae are located at Papawai, Martinborough (Hauariki) and Pirinoa (Kohunui).
