Council to hold workshop on future of Fitzherbert St land

22 November 2018

The Council will hold a workshop with the Featherston Community Board as soon as possible to further discuss the options for the vacant, Council-owned land next to the Town Square on Fitzherbert Street in Featherston.

At the Extraordinary Council Meeting on 21 November 2018, the Council agreed to defer taking action on its earlier resolution to sell or lease the vacant land. During public participation at the meeting, three Featherston residents presented a range of options for the land, clearly demonstrating the need for continued community engagement.

The options being considered by Council include retaining the land for development for public use, or selling or leasing it for private, commercial development.

There was some discussion about whether the decision on the land needed to be considered as part of the town’s spatial planning work. However, it was agreed that if a long-term solution was going to be some time away then consideration would need to be given to what to do with the land in the interim.
